The Results and Future Tasks of Gender Impact Assessment in Jeju

This paper examines effective gender streaming policy suggestions for Korean society and Jeju area through focusing on outcomes and project of gender impact assessment that is the one instrument of gender streaming strategy. 
The gender impact assessment in Je-ju area is steadily increased number of project that 15 in 1997, 21 in 2008, 36 in 2009 beginning with 1 project in 1996. In spite of, improvement and feedback to result of the assessment are not keeping up with growth number of the project. As a result, there were doubts about effectiveness of the gender impact assessment and increasingly, led to criticism and opposition of conducting to gender impact assessment system within public officers and with controversy about necessity. 
Furthermore, examination and analysis about outcomes has been treated too lightly so far, because the earlier studies were focusing on how to analyze policy process using the instrument. 
 For those reason, Korean Women's Development Institute (KWDI) stearted on the 'Research on the Effective Establishment of Gender Mainstreaming System[Ⅲ] : Outcomes and project of gender impact assessment'and part of the project, several region including Je-ju area participate the study.
 This research comprises 3 main subjects those follows to : Je-ju area's ⅰ) situation of gender streaming planning, ⅱ) operating of gender impact assessment, ⅲ) cognition analysis for gender impact assessment. Using methods for research those are analyzing administration and policy data, composition and operation with in-depth interviews and focus group interviews about local gender streaming implements network.
 The significant results are finding the emphasized basis of gender impact assessment's necessity and main agent changing government to local society about discourse on gender streaming by this research.
