The year 2010 holds significant importance for the promotion of gender equality and empowerment of women as it marks the 15 year review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action(BPfA) and the 10 year review of progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
At its fifty-fourth session in 2010, the Commission on the Status of Women carried out the 15-year review and appraisal of implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action and the outcomes of the twenty-third special. The review in the Commission on the Status of Women, particularly through its focus on the linkages between the implementation of the Platform for Action and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals contributed to the high-level event on the Millennium Development Goals held by the General Assembly in September 2010.
In this respect this study focuses on the 15 year review of the implementation of the BPfA and challenges and obstacles in global context as well as in domestic context. Then, it makes recommendations on each of 12 critical concerns of BPfA in relation to Korean gender policy.
