By joining the OECD/DAC in November 2009, Korea successively transformed itself from a partner to a donor country. Becoming a member of the OECD/DAC it shall have accountabilities for internationally agreed development goals including the Millenium Development Goals(MDGs), as well as the global agenda on the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. The international communities such as the UN and OECD/DAC have put an emphasis on  gender equality and the empowerment of women as an important means to achieve the MDGs. Nonetheless, gender equality perspectives have not been yet integrated into Korea's Official Development Assistance(ODA). It means that Korea now needs to discuss and develop the ways to integrate gender equality perspectives into the ODA. Korea is going to hold the 4th High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness(HLF-4) in 2011, which will give it great opportunities to develope its ODA policy in terms of aid effectiveness.
In preparation of the HLF-4, this study will look into the current policies and discussions of the OECD/DAC on the improvement of aid effectiveness, and make recommendations on strategies to raise the aid effectiveness of Korea's ODA from gender equality perspectives.
