1998~2016 Driver's License Holder by Sex
This is the result of number of traffic accidents by sex from the Traffic Accident Statistical Analysis of KoROAD. As of 2016, there were 31,190,359 drivers. And of these, 12,898,375 were female, of which 41.4% were female drivers. The number of female driving license holders has been steadily increasing since 1998. It is increased by 1.7 times from 4,963,867 in 1998 to 8,372,949 in 2004.
In 2010, the number of women with driver's license exceeded 10 million. Since then, the number of women with driver licenses has increased steadily, reaching 11,620,275 and 12,898,375 in 2013 and 2016, respectively. In the case of men, the number of driver license holders is increasing, but the increase is not relatively large compared to women. In 1998, 14,585,135 male driver license holders decreased slightly to 13,204,159 in 2011, which increased to 14,362,104 in 2004 and 15,248,126 in 2007.
Since then, male driver license holders have increased, reaching 17,227,765 and 18,291,984 in 2013 and 2016, respectively.As the number of women and men driving license holders increased, the proportion of women who have driver's licenses increased from 39.5% in 1998 to 39.1% in 2010 and 40.3% in 2013. More than four out of 10 driver license holders were women. In 2016, 41.4% of the total driver license holders were women.
