Current Status of Female Lawyers (2006~2015)
This is the result of dividing the number of lawyers by sex from 2006 to 2015 through Ministry of Justice’s statistics on female lawyers. Since 2006, the number of lawyers has increased in both men and women, and the rate of female lawyers has increased steadily.
Looking at specific figures, among all 8,423 lawyers in 2006, 644 were fermale lawyers which accounted for 7.6%. In 2010, 1,208 female lawyers accounted for 11.7% of the total 10,302 attorneys, a 4.1% p increase from 2006.
This percentage got even higher. In 2014, out of 14,941 lawyers, 2,984 were women and one in five lawyers was women. By 2015, out of 20,531 lawyers, 5,127 were female lawyers, and one out of four lawyers was female.
As it is seen, the number of female and male lawyers has steadily increased. In 2006, 644 female lawyers has increased by 8 times to 5,127 in 2015. In the same period, the number of male lawyers doubled from 7,779 to 15,404.
