2006~2016 Number of Child Abuse Cases by Sex

    This is the result of dividing the number of cases of child abuse by sex in 2006~2016 by the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s National Child Abuse Report. Compared to 2006, the number of cases of child abuse in both girls and boys increased significantly in 2016 which was 3.64 times more for girls and 3.55 times more for boys. The number of child abuse cases in 2006 was 2,561 cases for girls and 2,641 cases for boys, respectively and in 2010, it slightly increased to 2,847 cases for girls and 2,810 cases for boys. In 2012, the number of child abuse cases in South Korea decreased slightly to 2,368 cases for boys, but the number of cases of child abuse cases in girls increased by 1.4 times compared to 2010, to 4,035 cases.

     

    In 2014, the number of boys suffering from child abuse has increased markedly to 5,037 cases which is 2.1 times more than in 2006. In 2016, the number of child abuse cases in both girls and boys has increased dramatically, with 9,320 cases for girls and 9,380 for boys.

     

    In 2006, 49.2% of the victims of child abuse were girls, and in 2010, more than half of the victims of child abuse were girls (50.3%). In 2013, more than six out of ten girls were victims. After 2014, the percentage declined, reaching 49.8% in both 2014 and 2016.
