Title Women takes 5.6% of the total HIV/AIDS positive persons in Korea

According to the Status of Reported HIV/AIDS Cases from the Korea Centers for Disease. Control and Prevention (KCDC), the number of Koreans infected with HIV/AIDS has consistently increased from 108 persons in 1995: 773 persons in 2010, 1,018 persons in 2015, and 1,062 persons in 2016. The number of HIV/AIDS positive females was 19 persons in 1995, but it has risen to 50 persons in 2010, 44 persons in 2015, and 60 persons in 2016. The number of HIV/AIDS positive males has increased 8.1 times, from 89 persons in 1995 to 723 persons in 2010. In 2015 and 2016, it numbered 974 persons and 1,002 persons respectively. Overall, the share of females infected with HIV/AIDS has fallen from 17.6% in 1995 to 11.4% in 2000, and to 5.9% in 2005. From 2005 to 2010, the share of females with HIV/AIDS slightly increased: up to 6.5% in 2010, but it showed a decline, reaching 4.3% in 2015. In 2016, on the other hand, the percentage of HIV/AIDS positive women has increased again to 5.6%.
