Title (No. 397) The Number of Children at National and Public Child Care Centers Amounted to 175, 929 in 2016

This graph demonstrates the maximum capacity of children at child care centers, the current number of enrolled children, and the ratio of the current number to maximum capacity according to the 2016 Child Care Statistics released by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The maximum capacity of children at private child care centers was 927,517 children and the current number of enrolled children amounted to 745,663 children, which took the biggest share and the ratio of the current number to maximum capacity accounted for 84%. The second largest one was home child care centers. Their maximum capacity was 374,907 children and the current number of children amounted to 374,907 children, which means that the ratio of the current number to maximum capacity was 87.6%.

This was followed by national or public child care centers (currently 175,929 children/maximum 197, 365 children), social welfare corporation-run child care centers (currently 134,189 children/maximum 99,113 children), in-house child care centers (currently 52,302 children/ maximum 69,683 children), corporate or organization-run child care centers (currently 45,374 children/ maximum 58,511 children), and parent cooperative child care centers (currently 4,052 children/maximum 4,240 children).

With regard to the ratio of the current number to maximum capacity, national or public child care centers accounted for 89.1%, social welfare corporation-run child care centers 73.9%, and in-house child care centers 75.1%, corporate or organization-run child care centers 77.5%, and parent cooperative child care centers 83.9%.
