mission

The Korean Women's Development Institute(KWDI) was established ro carry out comprehensive research on womne's issues, develop women's policies and women's abilities and increase women's social participation and welfare so as to contribute to women's development and to national development.

KWDI was replaced under the supervision of the National Research Council for Economic, Humanities and Social Sciences

The "Act on the Establishment, Management and Promotion of Government Sponsored Research Institutes" was enacted and the KWDI was placed in the Korea Council of Humanities and Social Research Institute under the Office of the Prime Minister.

Due to government restructuring policy, the KWDI was put under the umbrella of the .Presidential Commission on Women's Affairs.

According to a regulation concerning the commission and regulation of administrative .authority, the authority to supervise and coordinate the tasks of the KWDI was transferred to the .Ministry of Political Affairs (2).

The KWDI was established under the Ministry of Health and Welfare as a national .machinery to deal exclusively with women's affairs.

The KWDI Act was passed by the National Assembly. It owes its passage to the U.N. Declaration of International Women's Year (1975), the U. N. Decade for Women (1976-1985), and .Korean women who shared the worldwide recognition that women's full and equal participation is .essential to the world's development and peace.
